The Midland Golfers’ Alliance held the Athol Palace team competition at Pitlochry Golf Club last Thursday, September 18.

Donald McKay (P), Wellsgreen, and Alastair Webster (P), Edzell, tied for the first scratch prize on one-under-par 68.

In the handicap section, Chris Westland, Alloa, (11) had a remarkable net 59 to win by eight shots.

Chris unsurprisingly led his team of Ken Thomson, Alloa, (14) and Fraser Mann (P), Carnoustie, to the top team prize with a score of 53. Leading scores:

Hole-in-One: Jim Wallace holed his tee shot at the 11th hole playing in the final of the Buist Cup mixed foursomes at Panmure. He was playing with his wife Hilary against Jonathan and Mary Weyers. The only other hole-in-one that Mr Wallace has achieved was in the final of the Kyd Cup, a men’s foursomes competition, also at Panmure.

Scottish Women’s County Championship

Angus won the Scottish Women’s County Championship for a second time in three years. The North Division Champions beat Borders, East Lothian and Renfrewshire at Hilton Park Golf Club, Glasgow to win the title with a 100% record.

Carnoustie lost 2-1 to Kirriemuir, after an extra hole, in the final of the six-man Angus County Team competition at Carnoustie Championship course. They beat Downfield 2-1 in the semi-final and Kirriemuir defeated Ballumbie Castle by the same score.

Monifieth’s Heather Munro, a freshman student at Elon University, North Carolina, finished a very good fourth of 70 players in her tournament debut appearance on the US women’s golf circuit.
