ANGELA Stanford is one of the number of Americans who were leading the pack early yesterday (Thursday) at the Ricoh Women’s Open at Carnoustie.
The world number 19 hit a first round four under 68 and will be out on the course again at lunchtime at 12.10 p.m.
And Stanford will be eager to replicate past Open winner at Carnoustie Ben Hogan, as she hails from the same part of Texas as the golfing legend.
She said: “Just being from Forth Worth and being part of Shady Oaks is really special.
“It’s an honour to get to represent them and to be here and to know Mr Hogan won here, it’s cool.”
The American was part of the lucky early starters yesterday who didn’t have to contend with the rain but she knows that could all change today.
She added: “I think if the wind starts to blow here, it kind of becomes anybody’s ballgame.
“I’m happy to be in a four under, but I know that we still have three more days.”
