Arbroath Lawn Tennis Club is celebrating winning £3,000 in the Bank of Scotland Community Fund Awards.

The club, which is based in Arbirlot Road, Arbroath, were informed on Monday night that they had won first prize in the scheme.

They polled a total of 59.2 per cent of the vote to win by a clear margin from Carnoustie Panmure who were second with 17.7 per cent of the votes cast.

The club has extended its thanks to everyone who voted for them by text, Twitter, online and in bank branches.

The money will be put towards the all weather court fund

The next event on the fundraising calendar is a bingo night which will be held in Arbroath Bowling Club in Dishlandtown Street on November 21 at 7 p.m. with ‘eyes down’ at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £6 each and are available by contacting Alison Moir on 07595 233273. There will also be a raffle and a cake stall on the night.

This autumn, an under-14 boys team has been taking part in a Aegon North of Scotland County League and has been performing well.

At the moment they are unbeaten with victories over Perth, Montrose and Blairgowrie.

There are still two tough matches to go against Kinnoull and Cults but the boys have equipped themselves well. Team has comprised Ben O’Mara, Jacob Dempster, Drew Moir and Josh Crabb – with Jamie Steel making his debut last weekend.

As part of the initiative to raise funds for new courts, the club is now approaching local businesses with a view to them providing some sponsorship.

Sponsorship options available can be anything from windbreak advertising through to supplying the balls for a particular match. Any local businesses interested in supporting the club should contact Graham Crabb on 07703 582129 – or any other member of the committee.
