Tennis festival at Monifieth

Monifieth Tennis Club held their first Angus Schools Festival on Friday at the courts.

Over 50 primaries one to three pupils from Grange, Seaview and Mattocks attended the event on the sunny Friday afternoon.

The event was sponsored by Caledonia Housing Association and a trophy was presented to the schools at the end.

It was organised through Jo Whaite, Monifieth Cluster Active Schools Co-ordinator, and the event was run by coaches from Monifieth Tennis club helped by Tennis Scotland and pupils from Monifieth High School.

Broughty Ferry Club

Gents (1) saw their Tennis Tayside Division One title hopes dashed by a narrow away defeat from league leaders Kinnoull (1). However, there were home wins for Gents (2) and Gents (3) against Wormit/Newport (2) and Anstruther respectively.

In Juniors Division One, Broughty Ferry (2) took the spoils in the derby clash with Broughty Ferry (3).

David Lloyd Club

David Lloyd’s main gents’ team maintained their 100 per cent record in Tennis Tayside Division Six in emphatic style at home to Glenfarg (2).

Results: Gents, Division Six - David Lloyd 17, Glenfarg (2) 1. Four-Player League - David Lloyd 1, Arbroath 7.

Games Club, Broughty Ferry

Gents (1) and (2) had mixed fortunes this week, but Games Club Ladies go from strength to strength, extending their unbeaten run in Tennis Tayside Division Three to eight matches.

Results: Gents, Division Two - Scone (1) 15, Games Club (1) 3. Division Four - Games Club (2) 15 St Andrews (2) 3. Ladies, Division Three - Games Club 14, Perth (1) 4.

Maulesbank Club

Maulesbank Ladies lost at home to Wormit/Newport (3), but remain second in Tennis Tayside Division Six.
