Tonight (Friday) Arbroath Amateur Boxing Club’s show in the Community Centre, Marketgate, will feature all the boxers who have been “on the road” during the past few weeks.
Just last week Haydn Hill and Ben Gibson were in a show promoted by Fair City ABC in the Queen’s Hotel, Perth.
Hill faced Adam Sinclair, Dundee, and from the start dominated his taller opponent with some fast two fisted attacks. Moving with confidence and skill he took complete control of the contest.
Sinclair was game but totally outgunned. His desperate responses were easily nullified but Hill who once more displayed a growing ability and use of hand speed, upper body movement, and good footwork to win a very clear points verdict. Another excellent performance by Haydn Hill.
Gibson has been out of action through illness and in this, his first bout for some time, he more than rose to the challenge.
From the first bell he was the boss. Fast left jabs and crisp right crosses kept Barry Ward, Fair City, on the back foot throughout the contest. Gibson took control of centre ring and never relinquished it, hardly taking a backward step the whole contest. Ward battled hard but had no answer to Gibson who switched attacks from head to body and back again with speed an power.
There could only be one result and Ben Gibson won an unanimous points verdict.
Both these boxers along with the rest of a very successful boxing team are in action tonight against stiff opposition from all over Scotland to really test their mettle and give the Arbroath public a top quality boxing show.
