Howe of Fife 2nd XV 97, Carnoustie 24

Carnoustie travelled to Cupar with 16 players, several of whom had not played much in recent seasons and with players out of position .

Their opponents on Saturday were table toppers Howe of Fife second XV.

Howe got the game under way and with all the field position and ball, stretched the defence with the winger making the first breach.

The pattern continued aided by several penalties, from one of which Howe tapped and broke the line of defence to touch down. Immediately Carnoustie responded securing the kick off and driving before sending the ball wide for IAN REID to cross and CHRIS RANKIN to convert.

They kept up the momentum with a solid drive from a scrum and the ball was sent wide to IAN COOK who drove through the line to touch down and again it was converted.

The homesters regained composure adding three tries before Carnoustie hacked a loose ball through the defensive line and won the race to touch down, but with no conversion.

Howe added a further try before half time with three of the touch downs converted.

Half-time: Howe of Fife 2nd XV 31, Carnoustie 19.

The visitors started the second half with a tiring team who were finding the pace and intensity too much to deal with.

The Fifers helped themselves to 10 tries in the second half, eight of which were converted, to one Carnoustie try from STEWART Millar, but with no conversion.

Howe were a well drilled, fit side and a weak Carnoustie outfit, despite their best efforts, could not compete in the second half.

Team: Nicholson, Addison, Cook, Reid, Franco, Coates, Rankin, Scot, C. Murray, Campbell, Rankine, E. Murray, Light, Hughes, Millar and Barnett.
