Forfarshire 3rd xi batsman Kevin Singh

IN THE Scottish National League Premiership match-of-the-day on Saturday, Forfarshire asked Carlton to bat first at Grange Loan. Watts wasted no time in finding the boundary off two short deliveries from Aman Bailwal, but in the fifth over, Aman induced an over-ambitious drive and Watts edged a delivery to Craig Wallace, who took a low catch.

At 18 for one, Scotland’s in-form batsman Preston Mommsen joined English in the middle, but was kept quiet by an accurate spell from Graeme Quinn. In the 12th over, Mommsen attempted a hit over long-on, but a mistimed drive was skied over Andy Wallace’s head at mid-on only for him to turn and chase down a great diving catch.

Rain then forced play to be abandoned in a match that had already been reduced to 30 overs per side.

Rossie Priory XI v Forthill XI

Early morning sunshine on Sunday saw Rossie Priory XI’s pitch at Inchture dry sufficiently for the visit of Forthill XI, who took first use of the soft wicket.

After the early loss of Scott Cameron, Clark McConnachie (83) and Andrew Cameron (29) added 100 for the second wicket in challenging batting conditions. Adam Hill contributed a well-made 33, including two hard-hit 6s as Forthill XI headed for a total of 183 for nine in 45 overs.

In reply, a fiery spell from Adam Hill, aided by the drying pitch, limited scoring opportunities for the home openers and A. Lynch was first to fall, caught behind with the total on 12. Glenn Carnegie then got just reward for his efforts when Saddler gave a catch to Scott Cameron at short mid-wicket in the next over.

Two wickets in two balls by Andrew Cameron, including McAlpine for 40, saw Forthill XI well on their way to victory. A tidy two-over spell from Scott Cameron produced a further two wickets, leaving Chris Welsh to pick up the last wicket and complete a well-deserved win as Rossie Priory XI were bowled out for 127.
