West End are League Champions

Carnoustie West End are Angus League Champions after defeating their nearest rivals, Arbroath Bowling Club at Kinloch Street on Friday night.

It is the second time in three years that the title has come to West End. In front of a large vocal support from both sides the teams went at it right from the start.

West End were slower out of the blocks, but soon started to pile on the pressure and after taking the lead they never looked back. In a great team performance there were outstanding performances from Rob Torrie, Ray Gowans, Ryan Burnett and old hand Willie Miller who rolled back the years to play a vital part in the victory.

As the last shot rolled in the celebrations started  and the club was rocking well into the night. There were one or two sore heads for the Saturday friendly against Monifieth but the club was still in party mode and the players were in sparkling form, running up a big win against their local rivals.

On Tuesday night, four of the teams made it through to the semi-finals of the Angus Championships, but new member Steven Whyte who came from 9-1 down to defeat the Abbey BC representative 21-12 in round two, lost out by the narrowest of margins.
