West End bowlers just keep on winning

WITH five wins out of five, Carnoustie West End remain two points clear at the top of Angus Bowling League Division One.

Broughty and Monifieth both lost on Friday night and are currently fifth and ninth in the table respectively.

In Division Two, Barnhill are up to third after the narrowest of away wins at Kirriemuir, while in Division Three, Carnoustie and Broughty Castle again experienced mixed fortunes and both trail leaders Muirhead by four points.

Barclay Cup

THE FIRST round of the annual Barclay Cup competition hosted by Broughty Bowling Club was played last Wednesday.

Broughty and Monifieth won through to the second round, but Barnhill, Broughty Castle, Carnoustie, Carnoustie West End and Orchar Park were all eliminated.

Dundee Wednesday Bowling Association

LOCAL clubs have reached the finals in two of the annual competitions organised by the Dundee and district Wednesday Bowling Association.

In the semi-finals last midweek, Broughty Castle won through against Dudhope in the Ferguson singles, but lost out to Monifieth in the Millar Triples.

In the day’s away fixture against Scone, winning Broughty Castle skips were M. Crooks (19-12) and N. Heenan (26-7), but defeats for J. Adams (15-20), J. Finlayson (5-22) and I. Spence (7-27) saw the hosts win the match 88-72.

Barnhill Bowling Club

BARNHILL Bowling Club’s annual gents’ invitation fours competition on Sunday was won by the team from Scone Recreation which comprised F. Mitchell, M. Gowrie, J. Millar and P. Gellatley.

In the final they defeated the team from Monifieth Bowling Club which was made up of D. Mayes, G. Ross, D. Ritchie and G. Toner) 7-4 in the final.

Losing semi-finalists were Newgate, Arbroath, and Broughty Castle.
