ONCE again Carnoustie Panmure were left disappointed on Saturday when their programmed home fixture with Whitburn in the ACA Sports East Premier League was postponed for the fourth week in succession with Laing Park entirely covered by some three to four inches of frozen snow.
A slight thaw early last week had revealed several green patches, which perhaps could have been used for training, but on Friday night temperatures plummeted to around minus 10 degrees C and with these areas frozen solid on Saturday morning, a hastily arranged change of plan saw Gowfers’ manager Ian Gilzean take his troops down to the beach instead for a training session on the sand.
There are now no Saturday fixtures until January 8 when Whitburn are again pencilled in to visit Laing Park.
Manager Gilzean has provisionally arranged a friendly against Carnoustie YM for Monday, December 27, with a 1 p.m. kick-off, but obviously there will have to be a dramatic improvement in conditions for that to go ahead.
Carlogie Dam Fishery
With a thick layer of ice covering the water surface since the end of November, anglers have seen no action at Carlogie Dam Fishings so far this month and with no sign of a let-up in the weather soon, two competitions programmed for the festive period may have to be cancelled.
The first of these is planned for Boxing Day, December 26, and the other is a New Year event due to take place next Sunday, January 2.
Should the competitions go ahead, both are timed to commence at 9 a.m. and all are welcome, but would-be participants are advised to check the fishery website www.carlogie.co.uk or telephone 01241 853128 for the latest information on conditions.
The Boxing Day competition at Kingennie has been cancelled, but if weather allows, recreational fishing will take place.
