A Kevin Buchan hat-trick for Broughty Athletic helped his side knock out visitors Camelon from the East of Scotland Cup on Saturday at Whitton Park in a 3-0 win.
Following the midweek semi-final loss to Jeanfield Swifts in the GA Engineering Cup, Broughty manager Keith Gibson was determined to not make it a double cup loss against Camelon and fielded his strongest side possible as the squad was carrying some injuries.
Missing were Brian Clark, who again was cup-tied, Kieron Ross, Jake Mair and Bastien Wibaut who are all injured.
Broughty went in 1-0 at halftime courtesy of Buchan’s fine lob from just outside the penalty box into the far corner in a half that Broughty had more possession as the half went on and half chances on goal.
The second half saw Camelon come more and more into the game, with a couple of decent chances, but Buchan’s double, one a header from a Dougie Cameron cross and one a tap in from a half saved free-kick by the Camelon keeper, put Broughty into the hat for the next round.
