Arbroath Amateur Boxing club resumes training on Thursday (August 29) at seven pm in the Community Centre, Marketgate.
The only boxing club between Dundee in the south and Aberdeen to the North, whose members are drawn from the whole of Angus and the Mearns was very successful last season, producing no fewer than six champions in various categories..
Deon Johntone got the season rolling when he won his weight category to become the Novice Youth Scottish champion, quickly joined by John Cooper who was crowned North District light heavyweight champ, and Terry Ballantine who become North District light-welterweight champ. Jamie McDowell joined the club when he won the Scottish intermediate middleweight title. Finally Ben Gibson and Michael Craig were victors at their respective weights in the North District youth championships.
With a growing pool of talent and a more vigorous training regime these boys can and will progress to more success in the coming season, and with the likes of Lewis Keith, Darren Foster, Max Butterworth and Mark Fairweather along with Charlotte Tasker also in the team another exciting year beckons.
