Carlogie Dam

Deep sink flies are taking fish during the day at Carlogie Dam, with dries and suspender buzzers working well in the evening.

Recent catches include: J. Gilbert (Carnoustie) c/r four, D. Roy (Broughty Ferry) c/r two, F. Longmuir (Arbroath) c/r two, P. Howarth (Grangemouth) c/r two, D. Linton (Dundee) c/r seven, D. Thoms (Carnoustie) c/r three, A. Stewart (Dundee) c/r five, I. Chaplain (Carnoustie) c/r five, M. McDonald (Arbroath) c/r 10, T. McDade (Arbroath) c/r two, C. Davidson (Dundee) c/r three, K. Chalmers (Dundee) c/r five, S. McDonald (Newburgh) c/r three, R. Young (Glasgow) two for 4lbs, G. Paterson (Brechin) one for 2lbs, B. McCulloch one for 2lbs 8oz, D. Phinn (Dundee) two for 4lbs 12oz, C. Cochrane (Forfar) two for 5lbs.

The Ledhope Fishing Club from Galashiels visited the dam recently and had a really good day and caught a few fish. Lots of very good comments about the fishery.

Kingennie

The ongoing hot weather is glorious for a day’s fishing, but the trout are proving that bit harder to catch as the water temperature rises.

We don’t normally wish for rain but a decent downpour or two would help by flushing out the system and lowering the water temperature.

The Boathouse Pool is quite challenging but fish can be stalked and have been taken on buzzers or small lures. A very slow retrieve has been the key to most catches. Small versions of Rob Roy and Yellow Dancer have produced positive results as have buzzer patterns in red/black and black/green.

The Burnside Pool has benefitted from being especially deep. With much cooler water in the lower layers this is where most of the fish have been taken. Small lures and bloodworm patterns have achieved success.

The gin clear water in the Woodside Pool has made fishing somewhat more difficult and presentation has needed to be particularly good. Although the water temperature is high there are still fish to be caught early in the morning and during the two hours before dusk. Green or orange Powerbait has been the most successful method, although several fish have been taken on worms and maggots.

Bankside is somewhat out of sorts at present. Although there are numbers of fish moving they are particularly difficult to catch. Some success has been had on buzzers and dries, again mainly early morning and late evening.

Troutmasters

What a difference a day makes! Day two of the final saw perfect weather conditions for fishing, but the little blighters were hard to get hold of! It was hard fishing for the young anglers, but they should much determination out there and all done very well. However, we got a winner and we would like to say a big congratulations to Robert Gibson who represented Kingennie fishery and is our new Troutmasters champion.
