Club Returns

Carnoustie’s Keir McNicoll, assistant professional at Gullane Golf Club, scored the biggest win of his pro career at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club on Sunday.

McNicoll, who won a qualifier to get into the field for the lucrative Kerr Investments 36-hole two-day pro-am, finished up winning the £2,297 top prize with a total of five-under-par 135.

Son of former Dunfermline Athletic footballer Dave McNicoll, Keir mastered the inward half in both rounds, coming home on Saturday in 31 for a three-under 67 and on Sunday in 32 for a 68. He birdied the ninth, 16th and 18th in a grandstand finish to pip the clubhouse leaders Greig Hutcheon, Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, and Graham Fox, Clydeway Golf, by one shot.

Sunday’s victory rounded-off an excellent week for McNicoll, who just a few days earlier had earned £552 for a top five finish in the 36-hole Hayston/Cawder Challenge, sponsored by Clyde Scaffolding Ltd.

The overnight leader by two shots after an opening five-under-par 65, Keir unfortunately let things slip on day two with a par 70 for an aggregate score of 135 and a share of fourth place with Scott Henderson, Kings Links.
