Carnoustie Gala competition winners

THE RESULTS of Carnoustie’s Gala Week competitions have been announced by the Gala Committee.

Throughout Gala Week, the committee had organised a series of activities for all the family to take part in.

Gala Week competition winners were: Gala Quiz Night – Rotary Club of Carnoustie. Sand art competition – 1, Caitlyn Devlin and Sam Goldstraw, volcano island; 2, Sarah and Kathryn Murray, mermaid; 3, Hannah Mackland, Olympic flame. Links putting competition – junior, Jamie Chalmers; senior, Pamela Sutherland. ‘Can You Spot It?’ - ages five to seven – Daisy Doyle and Aiden Gregory; eight to 10 – Greig Oliphant and Charlie Summer and 11 to 16 – Jordan and Caitlin Halley. Ladies’ darts – 1, Fiona Smith and 2, Tracey McGill.

The winners from the Gala Day competitions were: Best parade float – junior, Carnoustie Scouts; senior, Corner Hotel; walking float, the Twinning Association; vintage tractor - Alistair Gunn, Carnoustie; Bonny Baby 0 to six months - Lucy Campbell, Arbroath; Bonny Baby six to 12 months - Ella Gowans, Carnoustie; dog show best puppy - Caroline Mitchell with ‘Drea’; best in show - Derek Beattie with Sally. Pipe band competition – Carnoustie and District Pipe Band.

Carnoustie Gala Committee member Rhona Gowans said: “This year’s events had many more participants than last year’s and parents and children enjoyed themselves. It was just a pity about the weather.”
