Computer games industry veteran Gary Penn visited D&A College Arbroath Campus to give a talk to students on the certificate in computer graphics, animation & video programme.

A total of 18 students listened attentively as the former creative director at DMA Design – where he supervised the launch of Grand Theft Auto, described his experiences and observations of this vibrant industry.

Now a working with Denki, Gary talked about his career and discussed the elements that are required to make a successful game.

The process involved in pitching a game was also part of his address.

The students had prepared questions and discussion points to raise with the speaker who seemed impressed with the level of discussion.

“Mr Penn appeared delighted at the standard of question and readily engaged with the students,” said Lesley Morrison, course leader. “Having speakers of this calibre is an excellent experience for the students who were assessed on their level of engagement.

“We are looking forward to similar events in future particularly when we launch the delivery of HNC games at Arbroath Campus in the next academic year.”
