ANGUS Council has announced the line-up for a business debate, which will focus on how the independence referendum in Scotland could shape the nation’s economy in the future.

The debate, which is being held on Thursday (April 4) at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, will be hosted by BBC radio presenter Shereen Nanjiani.

It will involve four well-known figures in Scottish public life, namely businessman and former MSP Andrew Wilson, former Herald editor and current columnist Harry Reid, policy director of trade union Community and former MSP John Park, and biographer and commentator David Torrance.

Each will give the audience their own take on how a post-referendum Scotland will look in a business context.

The debate is part of the Scotland’s Tartan Day programme of events, which is held in Scotland between until Sunday, April 7, and includes highlights such as the Tartan Day International Golf Challenge, the Tartan Day Scotland Conference, as well as the traditional re-enactment of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath at Arbroath Abbey.

Shereen Nanjiani, who will host the debate, said: “The countdown has now officially started to Scotland’s date with destiny, when the people of this country will decide how we are governed in the future. It’s a privilege to be part of one of the first events since the First Minister’s announcement of the referendum date and we all look forward to hearing both sides of the argument in a spirited debate from our panellists.”
