THE ANGUS programme events for Tartan Week was launched today (Friday) and lists the many high profile events planned.

Tartan Week will take place between March 29 and April 7 and marks the global celebration of all things Scottish.

Angus Provost Helen Oswald is looking forward to a packed schedule arranged to celebrate Tartan Week.

She said: “Judging by the packed programme of events, the Tartan Day Scotland Festival 2013 has certainly hit a chord with businesses, organisations and voluntary groups throughout Angus.

“The Events Guide highlights just how many fabulous events will be taking place in and around the county of Angus during this year’s Tartan Day Scotland Festival.”

Key events include the Tayroots Family History Day, the re-enactment of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on April 6 and the Tartan Spirit Fashion Show.

Throughout the region museums and libraries will be joining in by holding craft days, competitions, story telling sessions and workshops.

Among those locally are a haggis hunt at Monifieth Library, the Carnoustie Tartan Day Parade and an evening of Scottish themed debate and speeches by members of the Arbroath and Strathmore Speakers’ Clubs.

The events guide also features a chance to win a family ticket to Pictavia, the visitor centre near Brechin which tells the story of Scotland’s ancient Picts. And, for fashionistas, there’s a competition to win two tickets, worth £25 each, to the Tartan Spirit Fashion Show at Carnoustie Golf Hotel on April 3, when models will take to the catwalks to showcase the latest Tartan Spirit designs - stunning, contemporary womenswear made from the finest Scottish wools and tweeds.
