The 81ST Arbroath & District Musical Festival ended on a high note at the Webster Memorial Theatre on Saturday night with a concert featuring talented young people who had wowed audiences during the week-long competitions.

A packed hall anticipated that from the singers and instrumentalists who took part it would be very difficult to guess who may be the winner of the coveted Blue Riband.

Making the announcement that the award should go to 17-year-old Alasdair Rennet a saxophonist, adjudicators Christina Thomson and Carole Lindsay-Douglas said their decision had been unanimous. Alasdair is a pupil at the High School of Dundee where he studies with Mrs Sneddon. He has been a competitor for many years at the Festival where he has won several other awards.
