CARNOUSTIE Musical Society added another string to their bow after one of their number’s creative design talents were recognised.

Doug Laurie, a retired graphic designer, was recently presented with a certificate of commendation by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for his poster for ‘Anything Goes’ in 2011.

He has been a member since 1997 and his plaudits for the club include designing the artwork for shows such as ‘Oklahoma!’, ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’, ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ among others.

A spokesperson for the society said: “The members of CMS consider themselves very fortunate to have such a talented designer for their posters and programmes.

“The art work and designs are always eye-catching and colourful and would do credit to any professional show.

“Programmes always sell out, such is their popularity with audiences, and they are eagerly awaited by the CMS performers and production team on the final performance night of the show each year.”

More recently Doug created the poster for Carnoustie Musical Society’s upcoming show ‘Meet Me in St Louis’ which will run from March 11 to 15 at Carnoustie High School.

Tickets are available from The Fobel Shop priced at £6 for the first night, £10 for all other nights and £8 for a concession or a block booking. Curtains go up at 7.30 p.m.
