Roselea welcomed Maud to Links Park for this McBookie.com North Superleague encounter, having just played and beaten them 3-2 two weeks earlier in the reverse fixture.

The northerners were, in fact, the last team they played, owing to the cancellation at Ellon last week.

Roselea didn’t hang around and opened the scoring in seven minutes when Calum Watson pounced on a loose ball inside the box and fired home.

Maud had their first chance in 21 minutes when Walker sent a free kick well wide of the target from 30 yards.

In 24 minutes, Garnham and Greig combined again, with Mowatt tipping over the bar. From Beedie’s corner, Garnham pounced at the back post to make it 2-0.

Roselea stretched their lead to a comfortable three goals in the 39th minute. Thomson flicked on, sending Garnham away and, after twisting and turning his opponent three times, he slid on to stab home from eight yards.

Roselea had the final chance of the half when Reoch put C. Watson in but he dragged his shot wide from an angle.

The first action of the second half was a free header from a Maud corner in 48 mins and, luckily for Roselea, the ball bounced perfectly for Tweed to smother.

Calum Watson had a shot well saved by Mowatt in 55 minutes as Roselea looked to get back among the goals

Garnham was proving a thorn in Maud’s side and again did well to hold the ball in the box, then his lay-off to Davidson was intercepted by a great Maud tackle. From Beedie’s corner, E. Watson’s header was again well saved by Mowatt

The Roselea pressure was racking up and it was no surprise when they increased the lead in 61 minutes. Thomson flicked on for Garnham to advance and complete his hat-trick with a nice finish, before he was replaced by Jamieson in 64 minutes.

Roselea had a penalty claim when Jamieson tangled with Maud ‘keeper Mowatt in 66 minutes but it was not given.

Jamieson played a big part in the fifth goal with some great hold-up play before swivelling to pass on

the onrushing Robertson, who advanced and also sent a great finish past the Maud stopper in 76 minutes.

This was a very professional display against a team who did seem to lose heart after the third goal went in.

However, Roselea were strong all over the pitch and, with three or four players to return, the competition for places should be all the stronger in the coming weeks.

Montrose Roselea: Tweed, Stephen, Soutar, Reoch, E. Watson, Davidson, Beedie, Thomson, Greig, C. Watson, Garnham. Subs: Jamieson, McDonald, Robertson, Ferguson (T).

This sixth win on the spin took Roselea into sixth place and, this weekend, they will face tougher opposition in the form of current league leaders Culter at Links Park.

Roselea should have no fear, as they won the reverse fixture at Crombie Park 3-0 in August. Kick off at Links Park is at 1.30pm.
